Wilhelmine Amalie was the daughter of duke Johann Friedrich (1625-1679) of Brunswick - Lüneburg - Calenberg and Benedicte Henriette (1652-1730) of the Palatinate - Simmern.  In 1699 she married the Roman king Joseph (1678-1711), later emperor Joseph I. (from 1705), with whom she had two daughters and a son:

  1. Maria Josepha of Austria (1699 - 1757). On 20 August 1719 she married Elector Fiedrich August II. of Saxony (1695 - 1763), later (from 1734) the King of Polanad.
  2. Leopold Josheph (29 October 1700 - August 4 1701I.
  3. Maria Amalia of Austria (1710 - 1756). On 5 October 1722 she married Karl (Charles), Prince-elector of Bavaria from 1726 and, as Karl (Charles) VII., Holy Roman Emperor from 1742 until his death in 1745.
