LSNA Essay Contest
- 2014 Leibniz Society Essay Competition: The winner for 2014 is Stephen Steward, graduate student at the University of Syracuse, for his essay, "Solving the Lucky and Guaranteed Proof Problems."
- Thirty-third annual competition (2015): In an effort to encourage the study of the philosophy of Leibniz in North America and to give recognition to deserving scholars, the Leibniz Society of North America (LSNA) is continuing its annual Essay Competition. Submitted essays should be on some aspect of the philosophy of Leibniz. They should be from twelve to twenty-five pages in length (double-spaced), and should be submitted by June 1, 2015, as determined by postmark. The author of the winning essay will have the option of publishing it in the Leibniz Review. To facilitate anonymous judging, the author's name should be given only on a separate title page or cover sheet and should not appear in the body or footnotes of the paper; neither should identifiable information such as full references to publications by the author. Judges reserve the right not to name a winner in the event that none of the submissions is deemed to be of sufficient quality or suitability for the award. Full scholarly apparatus is preferred but not required; sufficiently developed works-in-progress will, therefore, have a chance in the competition and may be submitted. Previous one-time winners are encouraged to re-enter, but a given person can win the competition at most twice. Essays in French or German may be submitted as well as in English. Eighth Annual Conference of the Leibniz Society of North America
- The Eighth Annual Conference of the Leibniz Society of North America was held at the University of South Florida, Tampa, on October 31st – November 2nd, 2014. Keynote speakers were Daniel Garber (Princeton) and Ursula Goldenbaum (Emory).
Ninth Annual Conference of the Leibniz Society of North America Call for Papers
- The Ninth Annual Conference of the Leibniz Society of North America will be held at the Ohio State University in Columbus on October 23–25, 2015, in celebration of the 25th anniversary of the Leibniz Review and Glenn Hartz's editorship. Papers on any aspect of Leibniz's philosophy will be considered and should have a reading time of approximately 45 minutes. Submissions should take the form of abstracts of 1,000 words or less and should be submitted, prepared for blind review, to lsna2015@osu.edu in either Microsoft Word or PDF format. The deadline for the receipt of submissions is February 15th, 2015. Authors will be notified by April 1st, 2015 of the program committee's decision. Leibniz Society of North America Business Meeting (November 2014)
Election of new officers at the eighth annual conference of the Leibniz Society of North America: Incoming president (replacing outgoing president Donald Rutherford): Ursula Goldenbaum; incoming vice-president (replacing Ursula who currently serves as vice-president): Brandon Look; incoming board members: Marleen Rozemond, Paul Lodge, John Whipple (replacing outgoing board members Anja Jauernig, Jeff McDonough, and Justin Smith).. The new officers and board members will begin their terms on 1 December 2014.
